Nature's Genius is the new Documentary Series from Perennial Films
The above video communicates a main narrative thread of the pilot episode. The tone is heavier than what the final product will contain as it is our goal to create a packaged message using a variety of techniques and styles that will capture a wider audience. This 6-part limited series will be much more uplifting, entertaining, and engaging than what is typical for this kind of content. The second reel below, at least directionally, better captures this mixed-media approach.
This is an ambitious project, requiring multiple partners. We are currently developing novel strategies, and exploring new territory that takes advantage of a variety of today's complex, powerful, and far-reaching media ecosystem. If you are interested in playing in our sandbox, send us a note and tell us a little about what's on your mind.
EPISODE ONE - PILOT
A New Worldview
An engaging, panoramic, and provocative introduction to the conditions and issues at hand and the key intellectual groundwork for the rest of the series. This first deep dive introduces the unique sphere of thinking required to embrace a new science of emergence, population deceleration and a radically different human mind.
Totalitarian Agriculture and Our Unsustainable Food System
Asking profound, tough questions about this “10,000-year-old problem,” which spans soil loss and degradation; the centralized control over seeds; climate-destroying deforestation; urbanization; over-population; and the pollution of land, air, and sea. While oil gets most of the attention, soil fertility maintenance and decentralized food production are the foundations of our future survival as a species.
Can We Live Without More?
Infinite economic growth is the most damaging “delusion of forever” that we harbor. This episode scours the globe for stories that elucidate the array of harm stemming from the growth and profit imperatives - and reveals alternative economic models that value social equity, environmental health and interconnectedness as pathways to financial stability.
Crisis of Thought
Our anthropocentric worldview has disconnected us from the living community, and threatens the very future of humankind’s current “civilization experiment.” Changing this mindset is the ultimate holistic response for resolving our conditions and issues.
Nature As Measure
Nature propels us into balance – there is no judgment, waste, expiring resources, or unsustainable practices. Since “Catastrophe as Catalyst”will not save us – and our present system of living cannot last – we must move toward a “OneEarth” way of living to achieve transgenerational justice for posterity.
CONCLUSION: The Intersection of Science, Metaphysics, Politics, and Culture
Over millennia, humankind has searched for meaning, developed languages and evolved cultures and consciousness. When taken together, the examination of urban planning, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, energy, resource management, commerce, education, law, medicine - and so many other facets of the human experience - shows they all have potential for a new paradigm - a holistic, ECO-centric dynamic. And that changes everything.
